چکیده

Earth’s ecosystems are extremely valuable to humanity, playing a key role ecologically, economically, and socially. Wildfires constitute significant threat the environment, especially in vulnerable ecosystems, such as those that commonly found Mediterranean. Due their strong impact on they provide crucial factor managing behavior, causing dramatic modifications land surface processes dynamics leading degradation. The soil erosion phenomenon downgrades quality reduces productivity. Thus, it is imperative implement advanced prediction models assess fire effects characteristics. This study focuses examining wildfire case burned 30 km2 Malesina of Central Greece 2014. added value remote sensing today, high accuracy satellite data, has contributed visualizing area concerning severity event. Additional data from local weather stations were used quantify loss seasonal basis using RUSLE modeling before after wildfire. Results this revealed there remarkable variety values, winter periods. More particularly, was 30% rise one year wildfire, while five years event, an almost double reduction observed. In specific areas with infrastructure works carried out validating applied methodology. approach adopted underlines significance geoinformation techniques post-fire identifying based parameters scale.

Effects of Burn Severity and Environmental Conditions on Post-Fire Regeneration in Siberian Larch Forest

Post-fire forest regeneration is strongly influenced by abiotic and biotic heterogeneity in the preand post-fire environments, including fire regimes, species characteristics, landforms, hydrology, regional climate, and soil properties. Assessing these drivers is key to understanding the long-term effects of fire disturbances on forest succession. We evaluated multiple factors influencing patte...

Assessing burn severity and comparing soil water repellency, Hayman Fire, Colorado

An important element of evaluating a large wildfire is to assess its effects on the soil in order to predict the potential watershed response. After the 55 000 ha Hayman Fire on the Colorado Front Range, 24 soil and vegetation variables were measured to determine the key variables that could be used for a rapid field assessment of burn severity. The percentage of exposed mineral soil and litter...

Reviewing Soil Erosion in Greece

Mitigating soil erosion, especially in Mediterranean countries such as Greece, is essential in order to maintain environmental and agricultural sustainability. In this paper, scientific publications related to soil erosion studies in Greece were reviewed and categorized. To accomplish this, the online search engine of Scopus was used. The key words were “soil”, “erosion” and “Greece.” An analys...

Illumination effects on the differenced Normalized Burn Ratio's optimality for assessing fire severity

The influence of illumination effects on the optimality of the dNBR (differenced Normalized Burn Ratio) was evaluated for the case of the 2007 Peloponnese (Greece) wildfires using a pre/post-fire Landsat TM (Thematic Mapper) image couple. Well illuminated pixels (south and south-east facing slopes) exhibited more optimal displacements in the bi-spectral feature space than more shaded pixels (no...
